RwandAir Adds a Kigali–Zanzibar–Mombasa Route

← Home

RwandAir launched a new route linking Kigali, Zanzibar, and Mombasa on December 1, 2025, flying a Boeing 737 four times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. It’s a small but useful addition for anyone combining Zanzibar with Rwanda or Kenya’s coast in one trip.

A new way to combine East Africa’s coasts

Until now, hopping between Zanzibar and Kenya’s beach towns usually meant routing back through Nairobi or Dar es Salaam. The new RwandAir service makes a Rwanda–Zanzibar–Mombasa loop more straightforward, which is worth knowing if you’re weighing a multi-stop East African itinerary against a single-destination trip — see our breakdown of routes between Zanzibar and the mainland for how this fits alongside the more established connections.

Good to know

Four flights a week, not daily. Build the Monday/Wednesday/Friday/Sunday schedule into your itinerary early, since missing a day can mean a multi-day gap before the next departure.

It’s a small route, but it adds to a slowly thickening map of regional connections into Zanzibar — worth checking alongside the bigger hub options in our flights and airlines guide if Rwanda or Mombasa happen to fit your itinerary.
